Throwback Thursday - Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Have a Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

It's been two and a half decades since it all began.  Read more here!

As far as gaming options, if you've already got the base game of Catan, you could add on the Catan: Explorers & Pirates Expansion (and the Extension if you want 5-6 players).

Pirate Fluxx is a fun, quick, addictive card game that never plays the same way twice. The rules change as the game progresses, offering uniquely high replay value. Now grab your cutlass, pirates have taken over Fluxx. There will be times ye must Talk Like a Pirate, and rules about how ye can Plunder from yer mates - even cards that let you play out of turn to take your enemies by Surprise. Playing the Captain's Hat gives ye certain privileges but watch out for Mutiny amongst the crew.

Come aboard and sail to Pirate's Cove, the legendary hideaway of thieving pirates and cutthroat buccaneers. The tales of those legendary pirates of old who've fought and survived these mysterious waters still haunt all those who yearn for a life at sea. Armed with a secret map and starting with a modestly outfitted sloop salvaged from last winter's storm, you set sail to Pirate's Cove, your eyes filled with visions of treasure and fame, your lungs filled with the salty air of the high seas.

Merchants & Marauders lets you live the life of an influential merchant or a dreaded pirate in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. Seek your fortune through trade, rumor hunting, missions, and of course, plundering. The game features a unique trade system and a thematic combat system, allowing for critical decisions and intense excitement. Modify your ship, buy impressive vessels, load deadly special ammunition, and hire specialist crew members. Will your captain gain eternal glory and immense wealth - or find his wet grave under the stormy surface of the Caribbean Sea?

Events & Play Wednesday - Gary Gygax Day!

Now that Gary Gygax Day is upon us, let's all do our best to remember why we game: the friendships we make, the fun we share, and joy it brings to our lives.  If you have the chance, share some of your fond memories of gaming here or on the GM's Day page where Gary Gygax Day is also being celebrated here.  And don't forget that CMG is having a One Dollar sale to mark the occasion here.

Also, on multiverse.world, Timothy Connolly penned a wonderful article with d30 ways to enjoy your Gary Gygax Day here.

Finally, great thanks to Tim and the gamer-from-down-under Heath for spreading the word about this wonderful holiday.  You can visit Heath's The Antipodean d20 page here.

The Friday Grab Bag - March Fo(u)rth for GM's Day!

GM's Day! is March 4th. It is the day the RPGing community celebrates the hard work our GMs do. Like Mother's Day or Father's Day, it is a day of appreciation. You can pick up a gift for your GM or bake them a cake. Get them a nice card or finish that character background you promised. Or run a game for them! Just make sure you tell them how much you appreciate all the hard work they do running games for you.  Be sure to also Like and Share the GM's Day Facebook page here.

Also, let us not forget that on this day in 2008 we lost one of the greatest GMs of all time, and a founder of our hobby, Gary Gygax.  Let's remember him today and roll some dice in his honor.

As part of the GM's Day celebration, Creative Mountain Games, along with many other publishers, is offering a substantial discount off their wares at RPGNow.com here and Drive Thru RPG here.  Finally, if you happen to be at Gary Con VIII in Lake Geneva, WI, this weekend, seek me out and say "Hello!"  Maybe we will get the chance to throw some dice together!

The Friday Grab Bag - CMG & GM's Day!

Here's a quick note about some upcoming website adjustments for the CMG Blog Triad that will manifest in March.  I've often felt that having some types of cartography on Terrain Tuesday on MFWARS.com was shoehorning.  While I feel battlemats, battlemaps, and the like work well for this category, because they are essentially two-dimensional terrain, larger scale maps and cartography are going to move starting in March to the Grymvald.com corner of the CMG Blog Triad appearing on what will be dubbed as Mapping Monday.  They fit better with the setting-oriented blogging for Grymvald.com.  This will replace the old Monday blog on Grymvald.com known as RPG Media Monday which will in turn move to the CreativeMountainGames.com Monday blog slot.  That will replace Media News Monday, since I have often felt that news there was not very timely.  What I had posted there either had been widespread news by the time it was posted or would work well enough under the heading of RPG Media Monday.  I hope these adjustments don't throw anyone for a loop.  I feel they will work better going forward.
Thanks! - Mark CMG

Also, don't forget about the GM's Day Sale with the holiday just a week away.  With the holiday fast approaching, CMG is offering up some great prices on offerings for your GM or yourself.  All of the items in the CMG catalog are marked down to $1 and the remaining three items are at 50% off the normal selling price.  Grab something for you GM *OR* for yourself while the prices are so low. The Friday Grab Bag - Geeky Christmas Humor

Let's have a little chuckle for Geekmas this year starting off with an article on techly.com.au where they tell us, "Nothing says Christmas like Spock dying of radiation poisoning in a tree ornament."  Find out more here.

Also, there's a report from dailymail.co.uk about some fake Star Wars toys we all hope we don't find under our trees.  Learn more here.

Throwback Thursday - Wayback Sale

As we roll into a new year with the CMG Wayback Sale, I look back on the decade and a half since I began Creative Mountain Games.  It's always been a sideline, and so it will remain, but I have been itching to be more productive as a game designer and publisher.  Since moving up to Lake Geneva almost three years ago, I've come to love the location and have been designing and writing a whole lot more, though little has yet to see publication.  Much in the works but not enough out to market.  I plan to get more out soon but the new location has not been without its successes.  One thing I am particularly proud of is "Fighting Fire - Ernie Gygax Benefit Adventure" which is half off for the sale here.

Also, since coming to Lake Geneva and with a bit of love for the Old School gaming that I grew up knowing, I produced "30 Things Can Happen" which I have marked down to just a dollar for this special anniversary sale.  Though designed with the d30 in mind, each table is divided into three sub-tables for a d10, so choose a sub-table and roll the d30's cousin or roll a d6 with the d10 to keep it random.  You get the idea and it's only one dollar here.

Finally, to harken back to when I published my biggest game changer, the "SRD 3.5 Revised (Full) Bundle" has been rolled back 75% off to it's original price before all of the expansions and add-ons were compiled into it.  3,500 pages in 16 PDFs with great navigational tables , hyperlinks, and bookmarks that allow you to go anywhere within the PDF in just a few clicks.  Check it out here.

Finally, don't forget that today, May 25th, is Towel Day!  As per wikipedia, "Towel Day is celebrated every year on 25 May as a tribute to the author Douglas Adams by his fans.[1] On this day, fans carry a towel with them, as described in Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, to demonstrate their appreciation for the books and the author. The commemoration was first held two weeks after Adams' death on 11 May 2001."
