Events & Play Wednesday - LGG Events

We've got some stellar events lined up at Lake Geneva Games in September.  These events are included on the LGG website calendar but also sometimes organized on Facebook as individual events.  First up, today, Wednesday, August 31st and Saturday, September 3rd, we have two follow up events to our very successful Conspiracy: Take the Crown draft last Saturday (which drew 63 players!).  Both days will including rolling drafts for $10 per participant.  They are, of course, Conspiracy: Take the Crown format: drafting then a multiplayer game for three to five players.  Three packs per player and keep what you draft!

Also, Sunday, September 4th, is First Sunday and that means Open Boardgaming (and other tabletop gaming) from Noon to Nine at Lake Geneva Games.  We set up a Facebook event for this one here.

Late this month we have a handful of events for both the Kaladesh MtG pre-release weekend and the release the following weekend (which extends into October).  All of these are on the LGG Events Calendar but the first two pre-release events might draw the biggest crowds as the first chances to get hold of Kaladesh cards.  The pre-release weekend begins with a Midnight event which organizes on Friday, September 23rd at 11:30 PM and start promptly at Midnight.  You can pre-register for this 2-Headed Giant event here.  On Saturday, September 24th at 2 PM, we're holding a Sealed event for a BOX which you can pre-register for here.

There is also a 40K afternoon on September 11th which I discuss on the Wargaming Wednesday blog here!

Events & Play Wednesday - Intl Tabletop Day

To mix things up for the day this year, I visited 42 Ale House in Milwaukee then swung by Colleseum Games and Rockheads, both in Kenosha.  The first, 42 Ale House, is a boardgaming and geek bar, but the other two are straight up stores, Colosseum a game store and Rockheads a comic and games store.  I really only played games at the first place and looked around elsewhere, so I got a ton of photos from 42 Ale House, only a couple of Colleseum Games, and just outside signage from outside of Rockheads.  The photos can be found on Facebook here and Google Photos here.

Events & Play Wednesday - Last Month & Coming Up

In the past I have made two posts on Events & Play Wednesday on the last two Wednesdays of the month, the first highlighting the events I attended and the next featuring upcoming events, locally and further afield.  Starting today, I am going to be combining those posts which will include up front a couple of links to where I have uploaded the pictures from the events of the last month that I have attended then expounding on future events.

Lots of gaming in and around Lake Geneva and Southern Wisconsin.  Here are some pictures taken at the various events, many of them at Lake Geneva Games (Facebook page here)!  Check out more pictures on my Facebook album here and a Google Photos album here.

Locally, make plans to go to Second Sunday which falls on March 13th at the Lake Geneva Games store.  They are located at 918 S Wells St, Lake Geneva, WI 53147 and their phone number is (262) 885-1515.  The event runs from Noon until 9 pm and is mostly about pickup boardgames though planning particular games is certainly encouraged.  Sign up for this event and discuss it further on Facebook here.  There will also be a Burlington Gameday scheduled for March on the third Saturday, the 19th, with details at the Burlington UCC Game Day group on Facebook here.  It will be held in Burlington, WI at the Plymouth UCC space, taking place from approximately 11 am to 5 pm.  All are welcome!  The third Sunday in March features A Gathering of Gamers on the 20th, set up by the South Lakes Area Gamers here.  The event takes place at the Pizza Ranch in Elkhorn, WI, and requires a $12 fee for the all you can eat pizza and fried chicken buffet (salad bar, soft-serve ice cream machine, etc.) plus unlimited soft drinks and coffee from 11 am to 8 pm.

Of course the big news is Gary Con VIII, happening this year at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, WI, over the first weekend of March  There's always plenty of gaming to be had even if you don't preregister, so come on over to the big show and rub elbows with designers and gaming legends from every era.  Just check out the special guest list here!

And don't forget that March Fo(u)rth is GM's Day!  It's the day we celebrate the wonderful people who prep the games we love to play.  There's a Facebook page for GM's Day here and a Facebook event setup here.

For more information on events coming up and happening near you, please check out the following websites (and let me know if there are other links I can include in this section!)

Events & Play Wednesday - Cons & Gamedays for February

Locally, one of the main events on my radar in February is Second Sunday which falls on February 14th.  It's a gameday at the Lake Geneva Games store.  They are located at 918 S Wells St, Lake Geneva, WI 53147 and their phone number is (262) 885-1515.  The event runs from Noon until 9 pm and is mostly about pickup boardgames though planning particular games privately or on Facebook is certainly encouraged.  Sign up for this event and discuss it further on Facebook here.  If you note the change in name, this is because "First" Sunday would have conflicted with the Superbowl, Gary Con, and the Gaming Hoopla in February, March, and April.  We'll get back to it being First Sunday in May, in all likelihood.  In the meantime, let's get some gaming in.

There will also be a Burlington Gameday scheduled for February on the third Saturday, the 20th, with details at the Burlington UCC Game Day group on Facebook here.  It will be held in Burlington, WI at the Plymouth UCC space, taking place from approximately 11 am to 5 pm.  All are welcome!  The third Sunday this month features A Gathering of Gamers on Sunday, February 21st, set up by the South Lakes Area Gamers here.

There is still time to get involved in Winter War 43, to be held this weekend, January 29-31, 2016, at the Hawthorn Suites in Champaign, IL.  Winter War is one of the longest running game conventions in the country.  The flyer for Winter War can be downloaded from here.  To get an idea of the scope and type of events that will take place, you can check out last year's program here.  Current event listings are here.

Farther from my locale . . .

The good folks at casualgamerevolution.com have put together the listings for Tabletop Gaming Conventions 2016 here.  They have 35 listed for February and even more in March and April.  Over 300 for the year so far.  I imagine that list will continue to attract new listings as organizers find out about it.

You can also find a whole list of gaming events all around the country and beyond on Warhorn.net here.  Some of the events include:

Jan 27 Wasatch Front Pathfinder Society Demolition Games, UT

Some of this information (and more can be had) is from the excellent lists on upcomingcons.com/gaming-conventionsGameConventionCentral.comHMGS (the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society), and  as well as many, many gamers on Facebook and Google Plus, to whom I am grateful for the help in this compilation.  Thanks so much and have a great game!

Events & Play Wednesday - LGG Gameday, Gary Con VIII, & Midwinter Gaming Con

This Saturday, December 12th, there is a gameday at the Lake Geneva Games store.  They are located at 918 S Wells St, Lake Geneva, WI 53147 and their phone number is (262) 885-1515.  The event starts at 10 am and goes through the late evening.  There will be lots of board gaming, as well as card games and a bit of RPGing.  You can run out for and bring in food but they will have some snacks available and cook up frozen pizza all day which is all you can eat for five dollars.

Also, GMs planning to run games at Gary Con VIII need to make sure they are registered for the convention and get their events registered as well before the end of December, so don't drag your feet!  All this can be accomplished at the Gary Con website here.

Finally, pre-registration for the Midwinter Gaming Convention in Milwaukee, WI, January 14-17, 2016 continues through the end of this month.  It takes place at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center 509 W Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53203.  More details can be had here.
